Shane Speal Newsletter... just a short little note, actually
I Locked Myself Out of My Workshop
Good morning, everyone!
Here I am, sitting on my back porch swing on a cool Pennsylvania morning. The coffee is perfect and birds are fluttering everywhere.
I'm answering emails from you all. Everyone wants to know when I'm going to put more cigar box guitars on sale.
I'm not building any...at least for now.
After building and selling hundreds of guitars at dozens of festivals these past six years, I'm taking a break. Sitting back for a moment. I even locked the workshop. (You can see the shop in the upper left corner of the picture.)
BUT IF YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT A CIGAR BOX GUITAR, then let me recommend a couple.
I thought I'd let you know about a few friends of mine that are making cigar box guitars. These are instruments I actually use in concert.
SUGGESTION #1: The Daddy Mojo "Fisticuffs" 4-string Acoustic/Electric
Daddy Mojo recently announced the latest in their gorgeous Artisan Series cigar box guitars: Fisticuffs Mojo, featuring a laser-etched Victorian fighter design. I've been playing Daddy Mojo guitars at every gig since 2009. They're some of the best in the world.
This particular acoustic/electric 4-string guitar is on sale at the front page of their website, www,daddy-mojo.com. (They don't have right-side tab for this model. Just look for the main article on the front page and search out the "buy it now" button.) They even recorded demo videos.
I know for a fact there's only five instruments left in the limited 15 guitar series. They are on sale for $285.00 at www.Daddy-Mojo.com
The other guitar I'm in love with is the FARMINGTON ROAD "MI AMOR" 3-STRING ELECTRIC CIGAR BOX GUITAR
I just got one of these cigar box guitars three weeks ago and I'm in love with it. Built by my friend, Glenn Watt up at C. B. Gitty, this model features a Snake Oil humbucker pickup, fretted 3-strings and a Strat style hardtail bridge. (NOTE: I swapped out the high strings it came with for A,D,G strings. I tune mine to Open G.)
The Mi Amor is $249.99 at C. B. Gitty. They tell me that there are 5 in stock for immediate shipping.
...And if you still have an itch for a Shane Speal handmade axe, I have one left in stock: The Ed Stilley Tribute, featuring 16 internal springs and a Buick Hubcap for natural reverb sound.
This is my second tribute to Gospel guitar builder, Ed Stilley. The guitar proves that Stilley was on a revolutionary path with his designs. The internal springs add a tonal brilliance and brightness not found on other instruments. It also ads a beautiful reverb. I can honestly say this guitar feels and sounds like a living, breathing entity. Watch the demo video here.
I put it on sale this week: $385.00
So that's all. Just a short email while I finish my coffee on my back porch swing. I apologize for not getting any new instruments created. However, rest assured that this is simply a time of recharging my batteries.
I'll be unlocking the workshop again one of these days. And when I do, boxes will sing.
